has been painting for over 15 years and now maintains a studio north of San Francisco in Marin County. Recently, his work has been inspired by his continued studies with p-air painters including renowned Northern California artist Tim Horn.
Known for his bright, fauve-influenced use of color, Russ likes to paint the "unseen" colors he astutely perceives in both interior and outdoor scenes. His free brushwork creates a sense of motion that add to the lively palette he creates so his work is uniquely fresh even when painting more traditional subject matter. His current subjects are primarily "bodies in motion". "I am inspired by movement, strong color and candied scenes with people interacting creatively", says Russ.
His sense of craft can be seen in his exacting choice of canvas and high quality paints and prints. He insists that all his work is archival. His work is divided between commissioned pieces in which he works with his clients to develop the theme and content of his work as well as a variety of outdoor and candid scenes.
